As part of their research for future issues, Source Magazine are organising a series of meetings across the UK with photographers and artists to look at new photographic projects for consideration for publication. Source publishes a wide range of material, an archive of which can be seen online.

To tie in with the weekend of Ffotogallery’s Book Arts Fayre, Ffotogallery will be hosting a day of meetings at Chapter Arts Centre in Cardiff on Sunday 26th February for emerging and established photographers and artists in the Wales region.

Source will select photographers from initial emailed submissions — details of how to apply for a chance to meet with John Duncan (Editor of Source) can be found on their website here.

November FORUM - The Importance of Art Schools

The next FORUM will be on Thursday 24th November, 6.30pm at Turner House.

This month the discussion will question how relevant traditional places of learning are to today's artists.

With rising fees for education in recent years and with the notion of art scenes no longer restricting themselves to major cultural hubs, we will ask: Is a university course a necessity?

If a course is undertaken, what does the artist gain from this experience? What other available avenues are there for guidance and critical discourse with peers? Is an MA course still the logical next step for graduates? What are the realistic alternatives?

Also we will be be pleased to host artist Nic Hughes who will be showing some of his recent work.

Turner House is Ffotogallery's exhibition space in Penarth, on Plymouth Road (CF64 3DH).

Hereford Photography Festival

The Hereford Photography Festival opens tonight and runs until Saturday 26th of November. The festival is curated by Simon Bainbridge, editor of the British Journal of Photography and takes place at Hereford Museum and Art Gallery with further exhibitions and events taking place in Wales, Shropshire, Worcestershire and Birmingham.

We'll be particularly looking forward to A Social Landscape, the MA/MFA show from University of Newport students and Company by Chiara Tocci.

This charity photographic print auction will be taking place at The Motorcycle Showroom in Stokes Croft, Bristol on Thursday 20th October.

Selling over 35 prints kindly donated by the best of the South Wests contemporary photographers...including a signed book from Martin Parr!

Funds raised will pay for film & processing during participatory photography workshops with children who live and work on the streets of Guayaquil, Ecuador.

CMAP will be running the workshops in 2012 - please go along and invest in a print from one of these great photographers, enjoy free refreshments and support the participants of this photography project at the same time!

THIRD FLOOR GALLERY: ISOLATION SCREENING & OPENING

This Friday 7th of October we have the screening of the feature

length documentary film "Isolation", with Stuart Griffiths and

directed by Luke Seomore and Joseph Bull. It will start at 6pm and

entrance is free, but we more than welcome you dropping some of those

heavy coins into our fundraising hat.

The Friday after, the 14th of October at 7pm, we have the opening of

Sergey Chilikov's "Selected Works". This is a large series of

photographs by the Russian photographer, and due to a fair deal of

nudity not particularly suitable for children. On the other hand, if

you're an adult, you might rather enjoy these beautiful, slightly

grim, and very often humorous pieces. This exhibition has been

possible thanks to Otley Brewing Company, and has been produced with

help from Photographer.Ru and the School of Film, Photography and

Digital Media of Newport University. Schilt Publishing is as well

getting out the book "Sergey Chilikov: Selected Works 1973-", which

will be available at the opening.

Ways of Looking is currently looking for a team of committed volunteers to help with the smooth running of the festival. Volunteers will support and facilitate events and activities taking place throughout the festival, working face to face with the public offering information and helpful guidance to festival visitors. This is a great opportunity to gain valuable experience of working with professional arts organisations, as part of a nationally important photography festival. Apply by Friday 9 September 2011.

The festival will address, overturn, and playfully interact with photography’s assumed status as evidence in a range of arenas including history, politics, science, law, and conflict. Ways of Looking offers multiple curatorial approaches to the theme, ranging from museum institutions to grass-roots collectives. Ffotogallery recently received this opportunity with regards to the Cultural Olympiad Finale.

In September 2012, the first World Event Young Artists (WEYA) launches in Nottingham – the first event of its kind – will bring together 1,000 young artists from 120 nations for a ten-day cultural festival across the city from 7 – 16 September 2012.

Applications are invited across all art forms – from music, dance, theatre and spoken word to film, visual art and fashion – and should be from artists aged between 18 and 30. Successful artists will be chosen by a high profile selection panel comprising curators and programmers from a range of UK art venues.

The closing date for entries is 1 October 2011, with selected artists informed of their success in February 2012. Call for entries for other countries will be announced in different waves throughout the autumn.

CURATORIAL INTERNSHIP AT ARTES MUNDI

Artes Mundi are advertising for a part time curatorial intern. The position is between 1-2 days a week for up to six months. It’s unpaid though travel and lunch expenses will be covered for each full day.

The intern will be responsible to the Artistic director and will work mostly at the Artes Mundi office in Cardiff, though some off-site work will be required at a later date. The main duties will be curatorial and administrative based. The position is intended to offer training and experience to individuals who are looking for further employment within the visual arts sector.

Deadline for submissions, in the form of a CV and covering letter of a 1000 words, is the 23^rd of August with the position needing the successful candidate to start in the week beginning the 12^th of September. As part of the application, Artes Mundi would like to see a relevant proposal from the candidates on interview day, so this could be a great opportunity to put forward your own personal project!

Rick Davies’ panoramic prints go beyond what the eye normally sees and provide insights to our contemporary industrial and post-industrial experience. The artist’s elongated vistas of places such as Milford Haven and Port Talbot show how concrete and steel structures and petrochemical plants have become embedded in the landscape, with incongruous industrial and leisure activities taking place side by side.

In a provocative and sometimes hilarious fashion, Visual Pleasure examines the act of looking and being looked at. Referring to psychoanalysis, phenomenology and feminism, Dawn Woolley considers both her own experience and that of the viewer when looking at her as a female and a photographic object. In a practice that encompasses photography, video, sculpture, installation and performance, Woolley questions how we interpret what we see and how meaning is created by social regulation, expectation and desire.

Visual Pleasure is the first exhibition in Ffotogallery’s Wish You Were Here summer season, focusing on emerging photographic artists in Wales.

Cardiff School of Art & Design present 'Hello Sculpture' a celebration of all things Sculpture due to management discontinuing the Sculpture and Performance part of the Fine Art Program.

There is an impressive list of speakers to explore relevance, context and the future of contemporary sculpture in the UK. The speakers will draw on their extensive knowledge and understanding of making, exhibiting and thinking about sculpture. Contributors will share their thoughts on how and why there are so many successes today within this rich and varied contemporary art form.

In the afternoon, guest speakers and Cardiff’s emerging Sculptors will lead a guided tour around the final sculpture degree show at Cardiff School of Art & Design. Followed at Chapter with a performance by Bedwyr Williams to celebrate the launch of his new book.

As part of the 'SHIFT' exhibition at Jacob's Market (being held between 8-11th July) there will be a discussion between two eminent figures in British Photography; Jason Evans and David Campany on
Saturday 11th July from 2.30 - 5.00 in Jacob's Market, Cardiff

The debate will be open to Audience participation, with varying themes around the medium of Photography coming under scrutiny. It's sure to be interesting considering the calibre of the speakers. Not to be missed!

David Campany is an Artist and Writer, as well as a reader in Photography at the University of Westminster, London. He is the author of 'Art and Photography' (2003) and 'Photography and Cinema' (2008) amongst other notable texts.

Jason Evans is a multi-discinplinary photographer with a diverse range of outputs typified by an experimental approach to image-making. Known for his work in different media, he has enjoyed a career that engages with the fashion, music and editorial industries.

Seating may be limited, so get there early and peruse the exhibition.

Shift is a group exhibition that features the work of second year Documentary Photography students from the University of Wales, Newport. Forum member Liam O'Connor along with six other artists and film makers of December Lab's 'Vertical Cinema' (Jonathon Thomas, Henrik Hedridge, Garrett Lynch, Inga Burrows, Daniel Jeczalik and Freeman & Fine) are currently showing their work in a collaborative exhibition entitled 'Being' at The Wardrobe, High Street Arcade in Cardiff. With a such wide variety of work on display exploring the meaning of 'Being' this is well worth checking out by anyone interested in the moving image. STALLS AND TRADERS

Julia Warin and Jeff Pigott (also known as ArtSpark) have been commissioned by Open Empty Spaces to create site-specific work in response to an empty stall in Newport Indoor Market, as part of the 2011 project Stalls and Traders. The installation, entitled 'Kiosk', is a booth crammed with existing and new products created by the artists, which refer to the current financial climate.

The installation will be open to the public from Saturday 30th April - Saturday 28th May 20011 (Mon - Sat, 10:00 - 16:00).

There will be a fantastic opportunity to hear more about the installation and the artists practice at a forthcoming talk on Saturday 14th May from 12:00 - 15:00. Also as part of the project, Ania Bas has been commissioned to produce work for Ridley Road Market in Hackney, East London. Bas has undertaken 26 days of research in the market and each day has focused on a different letter of the alphabet, thus creating an A-Z of Ridley Road.

The research that the artist has gathered will form the basis for a series of tours on Friday 20th May and Saturday 21st May. Ania Bas is inviting people to join her on these tours and this will be a brilliant opportunity to gain an insight into the unique community centered within the market. There are 24 slots available and the tours will run between 10:00 and 17:00.

In 2008 FORUM contributor, Carol Evans launched an on-going archival project Titled 'The Bride'.
She would now like to re-launch it in conjunction with the royal wedding....

Here at Ffotogallery we're hosting a one off event that diverges somewhat from our usual programme of events. We have put together a day long celebration of Welsh sound and music in Turner House, in response to the current 'A Landscape of Wales' exhibition.

During the day we will be having free family workshops where you can make up songs with local musicians, or have a go at making experimental sound art with students from the Creative Sound and Music course at UWN. And tea and cake.

A huge thanks to all who turned out and made cakes for a wintry Forum on Thursday. We managed to cram in three amazing presentations which prompted a wonderful mix of discussions, from the potential creativity and social politics of interactive, public text messaging, the differences between women in post-soviet Kaliningrad compared to the rest of Europe, to the meaning of the sublime! crikey.

Briony Goffin, Creative Writer and Glenn Davidson of Artstation present Txt2. And taking place as we speak is TXT2 on the BBC big screen on the Hayes, Cardiff, lets hope they come back and tell us how it goes!

Kate Nolan, Photographer presents a work in progress, 'Neither'...
"Neither is an exploration into the hearts of the young women of post-soviet Kaliningrad. Locked into dreams of a future that their homeland cannot recognize or fulfil they look afar.
Living in isolation from both their motherland and the new Europe they must struggle to negotiate their own place in a society in continual flux. The women I have been living with and sharing with have with genorosity, opened up their homes and minds to allow me to better understand this link between place, identity and history."

g39 announces the end of hegemony

It's 'The last days of Empire' folks, or so g39 tells us. In the post-colonial era, g39 is renewing acquaintances with a whole group of artists in Wales, and we are promised amazing prints and 'Santa's grotto' seen through a glass darkly by Casey Raymond..

The Last Days of Empire preview 3 December 2010. In the weeks leading up to Christmas, g39 has embarked on a project with twelve artists to produce new work. Each artist has worked with g39 in the past and have been commissioned to produce a limited edition print for the gallery. The tongue in cheek title is a reference to the changing times that we are in, a time of austerity, re-evaluation, a time of change in the visual arts landscape. It’s the end of the year, a time of change, out with the old and in with the new and it all starts again. The future of g39 is uncertain, but that has been the case throughout the history of the organisation. We are used to adapting to change and re-inventing ourselves, it is a useful survival strategy in uncertain times. This exhibition marks a departure for g39, revisiting a generation of artists that we have supported in the past, in many cases we have represented them – critically and Curatorially – in the early stages of their careers, in other cases they are artists that have developed their careers alongside g39. Given an open brief they have responded with a collection of works that gives a cross section of contemporary practise in Wales Artists include S Mark Gubb, Peter Finnemore, Manon Awst and Benjamin Walther, Pascal-Michel Dubois, Miranda Whall, Bedwyr Williams, Richard Bevan, Simon Holly, Jo Berry, Will Woon and Casey Raymond. In addition to the edition of prints, the project space is being transformed by Casey Raymond into an alternative grotto for the season. Renowned for his graphic work, music videos, zines and design work, Casey creates and invents a world of offbeat characters that inhabit absurd dark worlds or situations. The grotto will be no exception, taking the traditional Christmas store grottos as a starting point, things are mixed up a little.

However, if you are realistically planning to pursue your artistic vision in 2011 and beyond, then 'Dense Cluster' will give you some of the answers..

Organised by Alias and g39/WARP in collaboration with Cerbyd, Supersaurus and Surface Arts, Dense Cluster is a knowledge exchange event for self-organsied survival. Coming at a time when arts organisations across the country are being hit by cuts in funding Dense Cluster will bring together a range of examples of ‘what is possible’ through shared endeavour, interest and skills.

Invited groups from across Wales, the South-West and the rest of the UK will present, in the widest sense, a representation of their activity to include discussions, screenings, performance, installation and documentation providing a Dense Cluster of activity. A publication will be produced on the day, marking the events and exchanges that take place as well as creating a document of recommended survival tips for these hard times.

Presenting groups include Hand in Glove, Lombard Method, Redwire, An Endless Supply, Folded Glued and Printed, Project Space 11, Surface Arts, Supersaurus and Cerbyd with More to be confirmed.

The event will be held at the Bristol Diving School in Bristol on Saturday December 4th from 1pm - 8pm.
Coaches will be traveling from Swansea, Cardiff, Exeter and Taunton M5 services to take artists to the event; places can be booked for £5, ticket include a cup of tea/coffee and slice of cake on arrival. FORUM on Thursday 9th will be a (kind of) Christmas Social - Fra's banana bread from November's FORUM, has inspired us to have a bit of a cake-off - so you're whole-heartedly encouraged to bring along your very best home-made cakery to share! Starting at 7pm following the Dawn Woolley book launch.

Also on Thursday 9th will be the Dawn Woolley Visual Pleasure book launch. The event is from 6 - 7pm at Turner House.

Visual Pleasure looks at themes of voyeurism and exhibitionism and in particular the female as a photographic object. These visually provocative works encompass elements of fine printmaking, collage and performance and invite the viewer to enter into the process of looking. Dawn Woolley completed her MA at the Royal College of Art in 2008 and currently lives and works in Cardiff. Woolley will be at the event, and copies of the book can be bought at a special price of £10! It is recommended to arrive early! Free Admission.

Opportunity: Fox Studio to open in Cardiff

Fox Studio is a new artist-run studio initiative opening Mid-November. It aims to support the development of established as well as emerging creative practitioners of all media based in Cardiff, by providing reasonably priced, clean and secure studio workspaces, with good amenities.

Situated just off Crwys Road, in a two-storey Coach house, Fox Studio has up to 8 workspaces currently available in the studio, each being approximately 8ftX8ft. All workspaces will benefit from good natural light, secure storage and double electric sockets. Wifi internet will also be available in the Studio. Fox Studio Members it is hoped will collaborate to organise a programme of events and projects throughout the year, as well as in the future, facilitating residency opportunities for local, national and international artists to produce site/ venue specific in and around Cardiff.

Fox Studio will actively work to develop stronger dialogue with other similar national and international initiatives. In doing so, we aim to increase opportunities for local artists as well as bring fresh, innovative ideas and creativity to the city.

Hereford Photography Festival 2010

This year's festival co-curated by Paul Seawright, photographer and Professor of Photography at the University of Ulster, brings together photographers from previous years and utilises various venues across the town, including Hereford Museum & Art Gallery, The Royal National College for the Blind and Hereford Leisure Pool. The co-ordinators have also commissioned new works, including projects being shown in 'The Hereford' exhibition, currently open at Hereford Cathedral. FOTONOW CIC is a South West UK based Community Interest Company (a non-profit organisation similar to a Charity). Directors Jonathan Blyth and Matthew Pontin are experienced photographic practitioners, teachers and college lecturers. Through FOTONOW they create new opportunities in photography and facilitate socially motivated projects in lens-based culture throughout the South West of England.

The company runs as a social enterprise focused upon developing photographic research and practice alongside increasing commissions, publishing, exhibition and education opportunities. FOTONOW is based in Plymouth and intent on working across the region to stimulate new dialogues with photography, the company also has a small studio space in Liskeard. Recently FOTONOW have launched their mobile Camper Obscura project which is currently working in Devonport on a residency to build a community archive (see news).

This month sees the new collaboration of WARP and Ffotogallery to present FORUM; held in Turner House on Thursday 11th November from 6.30pm.
FORUM is an informal, monthly event aiming to develop a core group of emerging artists in South Wales together with students and graduates. It is a platform for practitioners from various disciplines to exchange ideas, experience and opinions on visual culture.

Each month at the FORUM an artist/FORUM-member will present to the group. This presentation, that has no fixed form, will trigger discussion on a range of issues loosely in the context of contemporary arts practice.
Also every month FORUM members will have an opportunity to show or discuss new or unfinished works in an informal setting, for feedback and discussion.

Condition Report: Meet the Artists/Discussion

Condition Report is the work of six Czech artists associated with the Department of Photography at FAMU (the School of Film and Television of the Academy of Performing Arts) in Prague. Their work represents a range of contemporary art practices in some way rooted in photography and lens-based media.

At this unique event, Dr. Ian Walker from University of Wales Newport and Robert Silverio, Head of Photography at FAMU, will discuss how the work exhibits certain Czech characteristics, but also the ideas and influences of a wider international art scene. After the discussion, the artists Vojtěch Fröhlich, Jan Měřička and Radek and Zdeněk Květoň will be giving a personal tour of their work on display. Their work represents a range of contemporary art practices that are in some way rooted in photography and lens-based media.

Please join us for this exciting opportunity to meet the artists and engage in critical discussion about the work and its wider context. Refreshments will be available.

After the huge success of last years festival, Roath once again opens its doors to the public as it hosts Made in Roath, a community based project designed to bring together a wide variety of local arts including workshops, performances, residences, exhibitions and more.

The weather was delicious and the BBQ, manned by the two Gs, was delightful. Kath Ashill talked to us about her recent performances at Craig-Y-Nos and new FORUMmer Murray Ward showed us a cut of a film, 'Hiker Meat' that he is working on. Then outside for meat and meat impressionists. Rick Davies showed us some of his panoramic landscape photographs and as did Phil.

Tom Hobson's Art Update

Hello FORUMMERS, Here is an update of what I have been doing in the studio.

This is a mountain made of mountains, maybe it is called mountainmountain, or mOUNTAIN, or Mt. Mountain. I don't know yet. everyday it gets a little bit closer to being finished.

It should fit from floor to ceiling with the pinnacle right on the ceiling - so I am making it in detachable sections that overlap. Hopefully it is going to be in a show in Edinburgh in the autumn, ICML communal fingers crossed.

This is called " Eyes to the Hills" It is made from the leftover bits of sky from when I cut out mountains. So it is a sort of mountain of sky - or just an ambiguous peak. I'll put a better photo on my website soon. Contact me if you want to buy it to put in your bathroom tom@tomhobson.co.uk.

This is another collage made from the leftovery skys from making mountainmountain, at first I didn't like it, then i liked it - and now I don't think I like it. I swear it looks better in the flesh. Maybe this one doesn't get past quality control and will go in the art bin. It just looks like some careless assemblage of skyand not the borderline landscape/abstract composition I was hoping for. At one stage there was a nice moment where it sort of became a landscape and then not a landscape and then a landscape and then not a landscape and sort of fluctuated between 2d and 3d.

The image above is from new series of video works. They are something to do with the difficulty of accurate expression in art and are made from concentric layers of hollywood films. Each circular layer is staggered by one frame so that it radiates from the centre - with a weird temporal delay to the audio and video. Tough to describe in words but easy to understand when you look at them. Maybe Gareth will show some of them in his awesome flat/gallery.

Following on from three successful past internships WARP is pleased to announce that we are now looking for a new intern to work alongside Sean Edwards the Professional Development Officer at WARP. The Intern position is aimed at those with some experience with an arts organisation but who wish to develop their skills further through training and direct engagement with the sector. It is open to both arts practitioners and non-practitioners alike but knowledge and understanding of contemporary art is essential. The Intern will be responsible for the ongoing operation of the WARP artist resource area and the co-ordination of the volunteer workforce at the gallery. They will also be involved in the administration of the schemes and have the opportunity to liaise with both the marketing and exhibition teams at g39.

g39 is a publicly funded art organisation focussed on increasing awareness and understanding of contemporary art in Wales. This is achieved mainly through its programme of exhibitions, presented in the permanent ‘white cube’ premises in Cardiff city centre and offsite temporary venues. g39 profiles work by contemporary artists from Wales alongside those from the rest of the UK and beyond. It does not make curatorial distinctions between differing career levels of artists; however it does focus its attention on emerging artists.

Wales Artist Resource Programme (WARP) was established in 2008 as an in-house artist run professional development resource that enables g39 to offer Welsh and Wales-based artists mentoring, training and advice from arts professionals. The programme comprises a number of schemes that are delivered responsively according to the ambition and needs of participants in relation to the arts sector, whether skills-based, entrepreneurial, business skills, or academic critique.

There are few interesting events coming up this Autumn, which are worth of visiting or for some of you to participate in!

Frieze Art Fair (14-17 October 2010) features over 150 of the most exciting contemporary art galleries in the world. The fair also includes specially commissioned artists’ projects, a prestigious talks programme and an artist-led education schedule.

The Affordable Art Fair (21-24 October 2010) returns to Battersea Park, London where 120 galleries will offer a stunning array of contemporary art from just £50 up to £3,000. From the hottest young talent to firmly established household names, with so much choice you’re bound to find something you love whether you’re an experienced collector or simply looking for a masterpiece for the mantelpiece. This October, AAF features an exciting line-up of special events. The Contemporary Art Society will run a series of informative talks about collecting art, whilst the AAF Education Programme – under the theme ‘Food, Glorious Food’ – is hosting plenty of hands-on, family-friendly activities, all of which are fun, enlightening and free. The South West Contemporary Art Fair (23-24 October 2010)
Founded in 2005, the South West Contemporary Art Fair was originally held at the Phoenix Arts Centre in Exeter. The success of the fair meant that space restrictions at the Phoenix became limited - we are very excited about our new venue of the spacious Civic Hall in Totnes which not only gives the fair the opportunity to expand and provide a larger platform for artists - but also offers more choice for buyers. The fair gives artists the chance to network directly with the public and galleries in a relaxed and unstuffy environment and gives buyers the chance to purchase high quality contemporary art direct from the artist.

Ffotogallery are proud to present a gallery talk by Michael Carklin, Head of Academic Programmes at the Cardiff School of Creative and Cultural Industries, at the University of Glamorgan, tonight at Turner House from 6.30PM.

Having grown up in Johannesburg, Michael studied and lectured in Grahamstown, South Africa, before moving to the UK. Specialising in African visual art and literature, he will be reflecting on our current exhibition, Life Less Ordinary : Performance & Display in South African Art.

This event is free and all are welcome.
Refreshments will also be provided.

Ffotogallery's autumnal Book Arts Fayre is a matter of months away, and Ffotogallery are looking to recruit a small, enthusiastic team of volunteers to work with the Gallery Officers to plan and develop Ffotogallery’s second Book Arts Fayre of 2010, taking place on 9th October.

A knowledge of online social networking tools, a positive attitude to promotion and good PR skills are desirable, alongside a passion for Book Arts, and you will gain invaluable experience in events management and marketing as Project Officers and BAF mascots!

Philip Gross : 'I Spy Pinhole Eye'
Poetry & Photography Collaboration

Philip Gross, poet and professor of creative writing at the University of Glamorgan, will be reading from his latest poetry and photography collaboration, I Spy Pinhole Eye, with photographer Simon Denison.

Gross, was named winner of the 2009 TS Eliot prize for his detailed and lyrical meditations on the ever-changing waters of the Severn estuary, The Water Table.

FORA TWO
An exhibition of new F O R U M works to be held at Helen’s house before the end of September/ summer.

The Clore Discovery Centre (located in the Glanely Gallery) provides an informal area where the general public and schools can access and handle objects from the collections guided by expert staff.

Newport Museum & Art Gallery, are currently showing a group of three complementary exhibitions exploring a variety of themes and practice through lens based media. They are running until June 5th 2010.
Glenn Edwards: A response. An intimate exhibition of the artist’s response to his Priorities exhibition as seen through the eyes of local young homeless people.
Experimentality: Photographic Art. A showcase of lens based work by recent graduates and students from the Photographic Art BA at the School of Art, Media and Design at University of Wales, Newport.
Mandy Pritchard: Between Ourselves. A 40 minute cinematic video piece opening up dialogues between strangers who share a common link through their response to a series of uniform questions on some of life’s more profound issues.

Artes Mundi 4 - Arts of the World

The winner of the 4th artes mundi prize was Yael Bartana, from Israel. Yael won for her body of work over the last 5 to 8 years, which the judges said consistently stimulated thinking about the human condition and our understanding of humanity.

She uses documentation and re-enactments to move between playfulness and seriousness. Her work focuses on Israel and the israel situation, and centres upon human relationships as much as politics. Yael divids her time between her homeland, israel and amsterdam.

The exhibition will continue in the National Museum Wales, Cardiff until June 6th. Already, it has attracted 25,000 viewers.

B.S Twenty One Exhibition

As a part of Bristol Photography Festival 20 May to 9 June

Twenty-one of Bristol’s independent photographic artists have joined together to form the collective group B.S Twenty One.
The Exhibition will consist of three shows, each will run for one week and will look at various aspects of the photograph.

WEEK ONE: ROCK (20th May: 6pm) The work in this show will focus on the permanence and stasis of the photographic image.

WEEK TWO: PAPER (27th May: 6pm) The second week will feature the communication of the narrative within photographic images.

WEEK THREE: SCISSORS (3rd June: 6pm) The final week will showcase the cutting edge of contemporary images. The show will highlight manipulated images and conceptual photography.

The shows will be thought provoking as well as visually dynamic exploring the visual language of photographs. Come and support this exhibition.

Greetings from Hobson Towers,London! A hearty round of applause for FORA it is awesome, well done everyone. And the Book Arts Fayre was way good too, it was great to see everyone again!

So what happened at April's FORUM? was it the one where you went to Artes Mundi? And what is everyone up to? And where are the books I left at TH? In the post?

My news is that I have shaved off my moustache, made some collages that I don't like very much and am currently working on a floor to ceiling mountain made from cut out mountains. Below is a crudely stitched together image of my show in Manchester. I have put all of the work in the show on my website ( www.tomhobson.co.uk )
