CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS



Aspex is Portsmouth's leading contemporary art gallery and it is currently looking for emerging new artists working in all media for its open submission exhibition Emergency5. The deadline for submissions is Monday 1st August 2011 and the chosen winner will receive the prize of a solo exhibition at Aspex in 2013, including a £1000 fee and a up to £1000 production budget!

'HELLO SCULPTURE'

Cardiff School of Art & Design present 'Hello Sculpture' a celebration of all things Sculpture due to management discontinuing the Sculpture and Performance part of the Fine Art Program.

There is an impressive list of speakers to explore relevance, context and the future of contemporary sculpture in the UK. The speakers will draw on their extensive knowledge and understanding of making, exhibiting and thinking about sculpture. Contributors will share their thoughts on how and why there are so many successes today within this rich and varied contemporary art form.

In the afternoon, guest speakers and Cardiff’s emerging Sculptors will lead a guided tour around the final sculpture degree show at Cardiff School of Art & Design. Followed at Chapter with a performance by Bedwyr Williams to celebrate the launch of his new book.

BUS STOP CINEMA OPPORTUNITY.


Elysium gallery sees the return of the hugely successful annual international film festival, Bus Stop Cinema. Showing artists films throughout the day and evening.
The exhibition takes place from 19th August - 3rd September 2011 at Elysium Gallery, Swansea.
Deadline for submissions is 2nd July 2011.

Elysium gallery are also holding a photography open call. Winning submissions will be part of an exhibition and one overall winner claiming the prize of £200 with the exhibition to take place from 30th September - 22nd October 2011.
Deadline submissions 20th August 2011.

THURSDAY 30.06.11 : 6.30 – 8.00PM : FFOTOGALLERY AT CHAPTER, CF5 1QE


This month FORUM will be held in Ffotogallery’s meeting space at Chapter Art Centre.  We will meet near in the main foyer (box office) from 6.30 to 6.45 – look out for the person with a FORUM sign!  You are welcome to join us after this time, call 02920 668 695 when you arrive, you will be directed to our meeting space.

The evening will feature Jason Pinder and Roger Lougher discussing this years annual Rhôd exhibition, which opens up a dialogue between the urban and the rural by situating contemporary art in a rural landscape. A Q&A will follow and the rest of the evening will be opened up to the floor for any FORUMers to show and discuss works in progress or forthcoming events or opportunities.

FORUM is an informal, monthly event aiming to develop a core network of emerging artists together with students and graduates. It is co-ordinated by Ffotogallery and WARP as a space for critical discussion and conversation.

No booking necessary. FORUM is a FREE, drop-in event.  Refreshments and good company are provided.

JASON EVANS & DAVID CAMPANY - 'IN CONVERSATION'


As part of the 'SHIFT' exhibition at Jacob's Market (being held between 8-11th July) there will be a discussion between two eminent figures in British Photography; Jason Evans and David Campany on
Saturday 11th July from 2.30 - 5.00 in Jacob's Market, Cardiff

The debate will be open to Audience participation, with varying themes around the medium of Photography coming under scrutiny. It's sure to be interesting considering the calibre of the speakers. Not to be missed!

David Campany is an Artist and Writer, as well as a reader in Photography at the University of Westminster, London. He is the author of 'Art and Photography' (2003) and 'Photography and Cinema' (2008) amongst other notable texts.

Jason Evans is a multi-discinplinary photographer with a diverse range of outputs typified by an experimental approach to image-making. Known for his work in different media, he has enjoyed a career that engages with the fashion, music and editorial industries.

Seating may be limited, so get there early and peruse the exhibition.
