Gallery Talk with Emma Westecott Wednesday 25 February 6.30pm
To coincide with its current exhibition The Skater by Wendy McMurdo, Ffotogallery @ TurnerHouse will host a talk from Emma Westecott, Research Fellow in Computer Games Design at the University of Wales, Newport.
The Skater explores digital gaming, fantasy and play as subject, using both portraits of young gamers and skaters to explore an interest in the liminal space between simulation and reality. This exploration raises questions on what it is to be young in our time, offering a snapshot of youth today. Emma’s response to this work offers a theoretical context from which to conceive of the multiple threshold spaces on view. Whether in adolescence or in the virtual the act of play offers a very human way to explore and thereby navigate the challenges at hand.
Attending the talk is FREE, however there are limited seats available and so to avoid disappointment please ring ahead or send an email to turnerhouse@ffotogallery.org. For more information call us on (029) 2070 8870
